1. Why are you running for the Ward 4 seat on the Easton Town Council?
I am running for reelection to the Ward 4 seat on the Easton Town Council because I am deeply committed to serving our community. I believe there is still much work to be done to enhance the quality of life for our residents. I aim to continue bridging the gap between the council and the people I represent, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. Together, we can address our challenges and build a brighter future for Easton. I am passionate about fostering a sense of unity and progress in our town.
2. What issues will you prioritize if elected?
If reelected, I will prioritize several key issues vital to our community. First, I will advocate for affordable housing initiatives to ensure all residents can access safe and affordable homes. I will also support our first responders, recognizing their crucial role in protecting our community. Additionally, I will champion healthcare access and essential services for all citizens. Completing the town’s comprehensive plan is critical for smart growth, and I will focus on enhancing community engagement to ensure that every voice is heard in shaping our future. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive Easton.
3. What changes would you make to the town’s budget, and what budget items should not be cut?
The proposed budget is balanced. I believe some areas require better adjustment to support our community. I would prioritize increasing funding for our first responders, ensuring they have the resources to serve and protect us effectively. Their safety and well-being directly impact our community’s security. As for budget cuts, this year’s proposal leaves little room for reductions without compromising essential services. However, I would carefully review discretionary spending to identify any inefficiencies or non-essential items that could be trimmed, allowing the Town Council to reallocate those funds to critical areas that enhance public safety and community well-being.
4. While the town has grown, affordable housing remains a challenge for residents. How should the town build more housing, in particular affordable housing?
To address the challenge of affordable housing in Easton, the town should consider purchasing land designated for this purpose. Partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity can be an effective strategy to develop affordable housing options. Collaborating with such organizations allows us to leverage their expertise and resources, ensuring homes are built efficiently and sustainably. These proactive steps can create more inclusive housing opportunities, ensuring all residents can access safe and affordable homes in Easton.
5. What are your plans for public safety in Easton? What can be improved?
My plans for enhancing public safety in Easton focus on proactive community engagement and support for our police department. I believe in the importance of transportation safety initiatives and continued proactive neighborhood patrols to foster a sense of security. While recruitment efforts have improved, we must prioritize officer retention by developing a suitable retirement plan that benefits current officers and those nearing retirement. This will ensure younger officers gain valuable experience before advancing to command staff positions. Investing in our officers and fostering community relationships can create a safer, more resilient Easton for everyone.
6. In addition to serving the Town of Easton as a whole, what are your plans to improve your ward specifically?
To improve Ward 4 specifically, I will focus on fostering a strong sense of community through partnership, respect, integrity, dedication and empowerment. By actively engaging with residents, I aim to understand their needs and aspirations, ensuring that our initiatives reflect our shared values. Together, we can address local concerns, enhance public spaces and promote community events that strengthen our bonds. I invite the constituents of Ward 4 to join me on this journey, working hand in hand to build a vibrant and inclusive community that not only uplifts our ward but also contributes to the overall progress of Easton.
