The General Perry Benson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a special meeting to honor the Marquis de Lafayette, a key figure in the American Revolutionary War. The event will take place on March 18 at the Caroline County Library beginning at 10:45 a.m.
The meeting will feature a presentation by Patricia Maclay, a lifetime member of American Friends of Lafayette and a member of its Governing Board. Maclay will discuss the life and contributions of Lafayette, highlighting his significant role in securing French support for the American cause and his lasting legacy in both the United States and France.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about Lafayette's Bicentennial Farewell Tour of the United States, which occurred 200 years ago during, and his enduring friendship with key American leaders.
The event is open to the public, and the chapter encourages community members interested in American history and the mission of the Daughters of the American Revolution to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
The group is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. The General Perry Benson Chapter actively engages in community service projects, historical commemorations and educational programs throughout the year.
