CAMBRIDGE — Police are investigating a shooting that killed a Cambridge man on Wednesday night.
Steven Lee Dennis, 45, was identified as the victim by the Cambridge Police Department on Thursday. Police are actively conducting a homicide investigation.
Just after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a shooting in the area of Hudson Road (Route 343) and the Westside Bypass. Officers found Dennis lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a press release.
A civilian and off-duty officer attempted CPR, later joined by the responding officers, police said. EMS, upon arrival, declared Dennis dead at the scene.
Investigators say a car was seen leaving the area on Route 343, but no other details about the investigation were provided as of Thursday afternoon.
Wednesday’s homicide is the second in Cambridge this year — matching marks set in both 2023 and 2024. Both of this year’s homicides occurred this month. On June 8, a Delaware man was killed in a shooting on Camelia Street. A 15-year-old was later arrested on murder charges in connection to that shooting.
In a press release, Cambridge police called Wednesday’s shooting “a horrendous act of violence.†Police are asking anyone with information to call (410) 228-3333.
