The General Perry Benson Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution from Easton recently donated several books relating to the American Revolution and the founding of the United States to the library of the new Building African American Minds Academic Center.
As a nonprofit organization, BAAM is committed to creating educational, social and cultural opportunities, enrichment, personal growth and community building to under-resourced youth and adults at their new facility in Easton, where they can inspire and empower the next generation of leaders.
Several DAR members met with Executive Director Dina Daly and the Director of Instruction, Academic Support and Community Well Being James Bell at the school and toured its library.
The DAR’s mission is to promote education and literacy, patriotism and historical preservation.
“General Perry Benson Chapter congratulates BAAM for their accomplishment and wishes them continued success when the school term begins in January,” the chapter said in a press release.
The DAR is a worldwide nonprofit lineage service organization with 45 chapters and over 2900 members in Maryland. Women over 18 years old are eligible to apply if they are a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War patriot. Contact genbensondar@gmail.org for more information.
