九色视频 鈥 Early voting numbers in Talbot County got a jolt Monday as residents continue to take advantage of the chance to hit the ballot box before Election Day next week.
According to , 250 voters cast their ballots Monday at Talbot鈥檚 only early voting location, the Easton Volunteer Fire Department. The mark picked up the pace from slower turnout on the weekend 鈥 107 voted Saturday and 62 voted Sunday.
The eight-day window to vote before the Tuesday, June 23 Election Day started off strong in Talbot County with 328 people voting Thursday, June 11, and 299 voting Friday, June 12.
Early voting runs through Thursday, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Anyone in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
Turnout is down from the last midterm primary in Maryland, which occurred in July 2022. In the first five days of that early voting cycle, 1,202 residents submitted their ballots.
This year, 1,046 early voters took the polls in the first five days. Turnout for Tuesday was not available late Tuesday afternoon.
Republicans have slightly outpaced Democrats at the polls in the first five days, with 588 voters to 458, both approximately around the 4% to 5% range of eligible active voters, .
The key local race to watch in Talbot County is a six-way race on the Republican side to advance to November鈥檚 general election for five spots on the Talbot County Council.
The six Republicans 鈥 Chuck Callahan, Frank Gunsallus, Christian Mackendrick, Lynn Mielke, Dave Stepp and Wade Strickland 鈥 will be narrowed down to five after the primaries.
While five Democrats also appear on primary ballots, all will advance through to November鈥檚 race. Those five candidates are Chris Armstrong, Michael Bibb, Marvin Foster, Pete Lesher and Brian Naranjo.
Dorchester sees similar trend
In the first five days of early voting, 590 Dorchester County residents cast their ballots. Like Talbot, turnout was highest on Thursday and Friday of last week: 167 and 164, respectively.
Saturday slowed to 55 voters, and Sunday saw 49 come in. But on Monday, the mark hiked back up to 155.
Dorchester County鈥檚 early voting turnout is marginally up over 2022, which saw 504 voters in the first five days. As of Monday, 366 Republicans in the county voted compared to 224 Democrats.
Two of the Dorchester County Council鈥檚 five districts have contested primaries. In District 2, William Nichols and Yvonne Penn are facing off for the Democratic nomination, and the winner will run uncontested in November.
In District 5, Democrats Christopher Posko and Semuel Thompson Jr. are vying for the chance to take on Republican Mike Detmer in the general election.
Both parties are also seeing contested primaries for the role of county sheriff. Democrat Christine LaMonica and LeRoi Robinson-Grant are squaring off, while current Sheriff James Phillips is battling Mark Lewis in the Republican race.
