- FEDERALSBURG — At the Aug. 4 Federalsburg Town Council meeting, the following actions were taken:
- Josh Milner with EPA Water Technical Assistance talked to the Federalsburg Town Council about what they offer. Milner presented options of grants and loans to repair wastewater treatment facilities. While Federalsburg is not open to loans, they will look at all avenues to repair wastewater treatment facilities.
- Robbie Hayes with Pixelumen Lab joined the meeting via Zoom and talked with the town about the lights on the water tower. Hayes reported that they have not received payment since 2023, but the company cleaned the account with hopes of going in a new direction of Federalburg. The cost for new operation and changing the lights would be $1,800 yearly, and the town has the money earmarked within the budget. The town would be able to change the lights, colors and words on the sign at any time.
- Lywanda Johnson joined the Planning and Zoning Commission as a volunteer. Johnson is a resident of Federalsburg and was inspired by the change that is coming to the town.
- Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan talked about nuisance property issues within the town. The town will consider making an ordinance to be able to charge more for nuisance properties.
- Ryan drafted a letter to trucking companies to let them know the areas throughout the town where tractor trailers could not travel. Tractor trailers have been damaging roads within the town, and the letter is to let trucking companies know if they continue to travel through the town, they will be insured citations and fines.
- Council member Brandi James reported that they talked to the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company and they will meter the fire house but they will waive the company as exempt from paying for water service. The meter is only there to serve as a point of reference in case there are water issues in that area of the town.
- While an agreement has not yet been signed, Federalsburg officials said the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office will absorb the Federalsburg Police Department, taking over policing duties for the town.
- Federalsburg Town Manager Sally Slook has stepped back as town manager due to a family emergency. The town is now working to have her work on a contractual basis until the family emergency is resolved.
- The town announced that as of Aug. 4, the town will temporarily be located at Union United Methodist Church at 301 N. Main St. while Town Hall undergoes mold remediation. They asked residents to use the front entrance and follow signs. Bills can be dropped off to the office as well.
