九色视频 鈥 After 17 years, the group that owns the Tidewater Inn is planning to sell the establishment.

Coastal South president Dereck Janes informed staff on March 3 that the ownership group has enlisted JLL, a hospitality real estate advisory firm, to market the historic Easton hotel, with a sale expected before year鈥檚 end.

Coastal South is the managing partner and operator of the Tidewater Inn.

Janes said in an interview Tuesday that the listing will not be active for a couple of months so there鈥檚 sufficient time to prepare the marketing materials correctly.

鈥淚 feel like it鈥檚 time for another group to continue the story,鈥 Janes said.

In a memo to staff last week, Janes indicated there will be 鈥渘o immediate changes to our operation鈥 and that the current leadership team will 鈥渃ontinue running the Tidewater exactly as we are today.鈥

He said Tuesday that the board of directors decided it was time to move on. Janes said the board felt it successfully fulfilled its mission to restore the Tidewater to its 鈥渞acing grandeur.鈥

The primary motivation for owning the inn was to realize the vision of the late John Wilson, who acquired the Tidewater to restore it to the cherished state he remembered from his youth.

Janes said he feels they would have make Wilson proud if he was here to see it today. Janes took over as president of Coastal South, Wilson鈥檚 company, in 2016.

鈥淔or us, it was about: Did we do what Mr. Wilson really had laid out and envisioned for the property? And we felt like we had achieved all of those things,鈥 Janes said.

Staff reaction is new and hard to gauge, but Janes believes the right buyer 鈥 ideally from the boutique hotel space 鈥 will embrace current staff, leading to their continued growth and success. He said the change will be beneficial for staff in the long run.

鈥淭he change should be viewed as positive,鈥 Janes said.

He recalled when Coastal South acquired the Tidewater, it was in a 鈥渄ark space,鈥 and their efforts benefited the whole town. Janes believes a new owner will build on the hotel鈥檚 strong history and take it to the next level.

鈥淥ne thing that we鈥檝e learned in this business is that change is inevitable,鈥 Janes said. 鈥淎nd it鈥檚 how you deal with that change and how you push forward that really sets the tone and makes the difference.鈥

Located on East Dover Street in downtown Easton, the hotel features 86 guest rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, and serves as a wedding venue, according to its website. The inn also hosts events such as the Waterfowl Festival鈥檚 opening night and the annual Festival of Trees.

The hotel dates back nearly a century.

In 1947, A. Johnson Grymes broke ground on the Tidewater Inn. Despite post-war shortages of steel and plumbing that delayed construction by nearly two years, the hotel opened on Sept. 3, 1949, welcoming 4,000 guests to its grand opening.

In 1954, a north wing addition brought a ballroom and more guest rooms to the property. As new automobile routes drew increasing numbers of visitors to the Eastern Shore, the Tidewater Inn became a gateway to the region, hosting notable figures such as Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, Bing Crosby, the Kennedys and Robert Mitchum. The hotel celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2024.
