九色视频 鈥 On Thursday afternoon, Grand Rental Station of Easton employee Zach Kilmon sat atop a green tractor and cleared snow off the facility鈥檚 driveway.

Wind causes snow to drift onto parts of Centreville Road in Easton.

It was not the first time Kilmon had been out to clear snow in front of the building that day. With strong winds blowing through the Mid-Shore, snow has been drifting into the roads, making conditions difficult on drivers and on public works departments.

With the next bout of snow expected Friday night, public works departments on the Mid-Shore are trying to address those snow drifts.

Dorchester County Manager Jerry Jones said they have plowed every road in the county.

鈥淓very road in the county has been touched multiple times,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut with this prevailing, strong, 20-plus mile-per-hour northwest wind, you can go through and them a half hour later, there鈥檚 drifts again.鈥

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts Friday night were anticipated to reach as high as 29 miles per hour in Cambridge and 30 miles per hour in Easton.

Talbot County Manager Clay Stamp said snow drifts are having a significant effect on the county鈥檚 back roads.

鈥淲e鈥檙e working hard with our road crews to address that,鈥 he said. 鈥淎nd we鈥檝e activated our farm community to join our county resources to try to address the re-drifting of these roads. And it鈥檚 just an uphill battle until the wind decreases.鈥

Stamp said the rural community has been very helpful with clearing roads using tractors, which has freed up county resources.

鈥淎s a rural community, we鈥檙e very proud of our farm community for stepping up when the community is in need with that heavy equipment,鈥 he said.

Jones said that in Dorchester County, a lot of contractors have offered assistance in clearing roads.

鈥淎nd we have certainly welcomed their offers and gotten them into the queue to try to help us manage these roadways,鈥 he said.

Kilmon said Grand Rental Station of Easton has rented out tractors to 鈥渁 good few鈥 people interested in clearing snow. He said he witnessed a few cars get stuck in ditches Thursday in front of his workplace on Centreville Road.

As they try to address snow drifts, both Talbot and Dorchester counties are preparing for the predicted snowfall Friday evening. According to the National Weather Service Thursday, about an inch of accumulation is possible in Easton and two inches of accumulation is possible in Cambridge.

Stamp said Talbot County鈥檚 crews are prepared for the additional snow. He said the county wants to stress to the community that it鈥檚 better for drivers to stay off the roads if they鈥檙e able to and allow road crews to clear snow. He said drivers should also avoid the snow drifts if possible.

鈥淚 think our roads crew (members) are often unsung heroes,鈥 Stamp said. 鈥淭hey work well into the night, day in and day out, to try to get these roads open. We appreciate the public鈥檚 patience.鈥

Jones said Dorchester County鈥檚 road crews are working as much as they can and the county is monitoring potential precipitation on Friday.

鈥淲e鈥檝e got a lot of road here,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淚 think it鈥檚 570-some miles that we鈥檙e responsible for. So we鈥檙e certainly doing the best we can to get that all done. And we鈥檙e certainly working with State Highway (Administration) in trying to leverage that relationship as well where we can. I think right now, we just need mother nature to ease up on us and give us a break so we can get on top of it and get it cleared up.鈥
