How far out of touch with reality is House Rep. Andy Harris, co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus? Marylanders should be asking this after he became the only congressman in Maryland who voted against a $61 billion Ukraine aid package. Fortunately, it overwhelmingly passed Congress, and recently was endorsed by the president.
Tragically, for eight months Congress withheld critical aid for Ukraine. On May 13, former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko criticized the delay as a colossal waste, a kind of messaging from Congress to Vladimir Putin that its OK to rampage Ukraine.
This unnecessary delay, favored by Harris, likely caused tens of thousands of civilian or military causalities. An American volunteer helping evacuate refugees is warning that the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv with 1.5 million residents may eventually fall, as Russian forces plan total destruction, worse than Hiroshima’s devastation.
Finger pointing for the delay goes to a few extremist members of Congress who threatened to oust House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for advancing a vote on Ukraine aid. Meanwhile, these pro- Kremlin Congress members were vigorously promoting a disinformation war to help Russia win. Evidence of this surfaced when House Foreign Affairs Chair Michael McCaul (R-TX) warned that much of the GOP was infected with Russian propaganda.
Like a lot of Americans, Congressman Harris may be a victim of Russian propaganda. During an August, 2023 Town Hall he changed his previous support for Ukraine by parroting Kremlin talking points.
During the meeting he advocated “winding down” Ukraine spending, citing concerns of waste and fraud and suggested the war was a stalemate. The Inspector General report debunked those concerns by reporting no fraud found in weapons to Ukraine. Just 3% of America’s defense budget is authorized for Ukraine. That pittance of money is stopping Russia’s autocratic march into Europe, preventing American soldiers from defending NATO territory and fighting Russia directly.
His suggestion for peace talks with Terroristic Russia is pure fantasy. Beginning in 1990, Russia savagely attacked Moldova, then carpet bombed Chechnya in two wars causing 300,000 causalities. This was followed by a genocidal invasion of Georgia, and the bombing of Syrian cities to rubble.
In April 2022, Russia produced a “genocide handbook” detailing plans to exterminate Ukraine’s 40 million residents. Withholding military aid for Ukraine is analogous to a self-fulfilled prophecy, propelling Russia toward a genocidal victory while moving America closer to world conflict.

Logic and irony are utterly lost on the totally partisan Any Harris. Despite being one of four chairs of the Cong. Ukraine Caucus, Harris is a huge supporter of (as Sen. John McCain correctly called him) "neofascist" Viktor Orban of Hungary a mate of Putin. You might say, that makes no sense since Harris's mother was Ukrainian but just look at how close the branch fell from Harris's father's tree and all is clear. Harris's father, Zoltan Harris, was not only a member of the virulently anti -semitic Nazi movement of Hungary, the fascist Arrow Cross Movement which was responsible in the last year of WW2 for rounding up the remaining Hungarian Jews and sending them to the death camps. Moreover, Zoltan Harris, an officer in the Hungarian Army which fought the Allies, joined a Hungarian recruited German Waffen (weaponed) SS unit. All this was proven by a real Hungarian hero, the later Professor Eva Balogh of Yale University, who, as a student, managed to escape Budapest when Soviet tanks crushed the 1956 Uprising. Andy Harris travels regularly to Hungary and loves the extreme right Fidesz Party of Orban. And Harris opened doors to Orban's ministers and politicians once Donald Trump was elected in 2016. Harris was given a medal by Orban just three years ago. Harris wants minority rule, he opposed the sensible Covid-19 safeguards of Gov. Larry Hogan (and Harris boasts of being an "M.D"). Harris pledged to run for only 6 terms. He is now running for an 8th term. He passed only 1 measly bill in 14 years in the House -- on the naming of a post office! He plotted with the rest of the FeeeDumb Circus (Freedom Caucus) in the Oval Office on December 20, 2020 to prevent the peaceful transfer of power to Joe Biden on January 6. Harris indeed is a...deplorable and irredeemable.
