LONGWOODS — A crash on U.S. Route 50 in Talbot County on Tuesday afternoon killed one person, according to the Maryland State Police.
The incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Route 50 near Plugge Road, killed an 81-year-old man, an MSP spokesperson said Tuesday. The man was driving a pickup truck and “struck the back of a tractor trailer,†the official said.
First responders transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police didn’t identify the man late Tuesday afternoon pending notification of his next of kin.

Following the incident, authorities closed Route 50 near Plugge and Rabbit Hill roads. The crash site is near the Longwoods neighborhood, north of Easton and west of Cordova.
The road closure caused significant traffic into the evening.
A portion of Route 50 remained closed as of 4:45 p.m., the MSP spokesperson said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
