STEVENSVILLE — Motorists should expect significant traffic delays Sunday, Nov. 9, as the eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will be closed to vehicles from 12:01 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the annual Bay Bridge Run 10K. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span, with one lane in each direction, until the eastbound span reopens.
The Bay Bridge Run is the only event of the year that allows participants to run or walk across the bridge, which is normally closed to pedestrians. Organized by Corrigan Sports, Maryland’s premier race company, the event draws runners and walkers from 45 states and six countries.
The 10K course begins at Northrop Grumman’s Bayside Campus in Anne Arundel County and crosses the eastbound span to finish at the Chesapeake Bay Business Park on Kent Island, where a post-race celebration will continue until 2 p.m.
Charities benefiting from the event include Apollo’s Dream, Athletes Serving Athletes, Chesapeake Conservancy, Haven Ministries, Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, MS4MS, National Federation of the Blind Dreamers, Queen Anne’s County Veteran and Military Support Alliance, and the Walk the Walk Foundation.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as traffic congestion may continue through 6 p.m.
