GREENSBORO — Pete Brelia and Kim Ernest secured two open seats on the Greensboro Town Council by razor-thin margins in the town’s election Tuesday.
Brelia, an incumbent councilmember, and Ernest, a newcomer, were announced Tuesday night as the winners by Town Manager Cindy Yost at the end of the town’s live Facebook stream showing the tallying of ballots. The counting took just over an hour.
Brelia and Ernest both obtained 82 votes, according to final results the town posted on Facebook. Candidates Paula Turner and William Schaffner narrowly lost with 78 and 76 votes, respectively. Police Chief Lenox Trams received one write-in vote.
Brelia and Ernest will be sworn in at the next council meeting on Thursday, Yost said as the live stream concluded.
Brelia, 61, is retired and a former Greensboro police officer and police chief, according to the town’s website.
Ernest, 48, is an entrepreneur and owns the bookkeeping business Conquering Chaos LLC.
They will join Mayor David Spencer and Councilmembers Bob Harrison and Joe Noon on the Town Council.
